Brief History of LED lighting
The history of human development is a pioneering history for seeking brightness. The utilization of fire is a milestone in human progress. The bonfires light up by our ancestor is the earliest lighting.
In 1843, in Shanghai street of China, it appears the first street light, it is light up by kerosene,but it is so astonishing that people regard it as more holy than the moon. Great crowd of people went to the street to see the kerosene street light. Latter, this street light was changed into gas street light, imported from London, it is many times brightness than kerosene street light. In the eyes of pedestrian, these gas street lights are their sun in the night. Until 1879, also in Shanghai 16 shop, it lighted up China first LED street light, it is not consume city power, but equipped with a 10 horsepower gas electric engine, similar power as a walking tractor.
In the very beginning, each LED street light was equipped with knife switch, on the lamp pole. Workers need to switch it on manually when dusk approaching. Three years latter, several street light is using one knife switch to save manpower. This kind of street light is used in almost all cities in China till 1950s.
The first country in the world started to use lighting on the street is United kingdom, in 1417, in order to light up the darkness city of London, the Mayor of London, named Henry Barton decreed his order, the rule said it is a must to have light outside all building. Latter, his propose is supported by France, in the 15th century, all dwelling beside the street must install lamp for lighting purpose. During the governance of Louis X IV, there already many street light appear in Paris. In 1667, Louis X IV, regarded as Kings of the sun, also decreed his order for city street lighting. It is said that because of this order, the governance of Louis X IV also regarded as Bright Times in Paris history.
